The role of a church overseer is a good work that requires a God-given desire and a man of high character. An elder must be blameless, self-controlled, able to teach, and a proven leader in his own home. Having a good reputation with outsiders is also vital, as these qualifications protect both the leader and the church from pride and reproach.
