Every soul must subject itself to governing authorities because God appoints all existing authorities. Rulers act as God’s ministers to maintain order and justice. Believers must render taxes, customs, fear, and honor to those who deserve them.

Paul urges believers to stand fast in the liberty of Christ and reject those who hinder them. He warns that a little leaven leavens the whole lump and reminds them that faith works through love, not the law. Believers must walk in the Spirit to experience the reign of grace unto righteousness.

Believers must stand fast in liberty and avoid the law, because choosing circumcision makes Christ profit them nothing. They wait through the Spirit for the hope of righteousness by faith. Only faith working through love matters in Christ, as seen when the Holy Spirit convicts us of unkind words.

Galatians 4:21-31 (view passage online)
The Hagar and Sarah illustration contrasts the flesh with the spirit. Sarah doubted God and tried the flesh, resulting in the bondwoman persecuting the free woman. Believers must cast out the bondwoman and stand fast in liberty, just as Hebrews 12 contrasts Mount Sinai with Mount Zion.
