Peter warns that false teachers will come among believers and secretly bring in destructive heresies. God judges sin, just as He did not spare the angels who sinned, the ancient world, or Sodom. The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and reserve the unjust for judgment.

God gives us the confirmed prophetic word, which acts as a light shining in a dark place. Holy men of God spoke these trustworthy and true words as the Holy Spirit moved them. No prophecy of Scripture comes from private interpretation.

Peter promises to always remind believers of these truths even though they already know them. He speaks as an eyewitness of Christ’s majesty on the mount of transfiguration before he puts off his earthly body. He testifies that he heard the voice from heaven call Jesus the beloved Son.
