Paul explains that because he has been crucified with Christ, he no longer lives under the law but for God. His new life is lived by faith in Jesus, whose death would have been pointless if righteousness could be earned through the law.

The law arouses sin to show our need for Christ. Paul died to the law and shared in the crucifixion of Christ so he might live to God. He lives by faith in the Son of God because seeking righteousness through the law makes Christ die in vain.
