After healing a man on the Sabbath, Jesus claimed to be equal with God, which prompted the religious leaders to seek His life. He defended His claim by stating that the Father has given Him authority to judge and to grant eternal life to all who believe.

At the pool of Bethesda, Jesus healed a man who had been sick for 38 years, asking him first if he wanted to be made well. The healing on the Sabbath caused controversy, and Jesus later found the man to warn him to stop sinning.
