The Word becomes flesh and dwells among men. The only begotten Son declares God, bringing grace and truth to the world. John contrasts the law given through Moses with the grace and truth that comes through Jesus Christ.

John the Baptist sees Jesus and identifies Him as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. John testifies that he saw the Spirit descending on Jesus like a dove. He clearly names Jesus as the Son of God.

The Jews send priests and Levites to question John the Baptist about his identity. John denies being the Christ, Elijah, or the Prophet, calling himself only a voice crying in the wilderness. He points away from himself and directs people toward the One coming after him.
